Determination of the chemical content and bioactivity of the Anatolian Bee (Apis mellifera anatoliaca) venom obtained from different geographical regions from Turkey
Project no. 22594 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary

Apitherapy is a medical complementary practice accepted as 'the whole of the applied methods of using the protective and therapeutic properties of bee products in human, animal and plant health'. Bee venom is one of the bee products used in Apitherapy. The market of bee venom with high added value is still not sustainable in our country. Studies draw attention to the difference in the amount of bee venom collected from different regions in different seasons. Our study is important in terms of determining the properties of bee venom produced in different geographical conditions of our country and developing its standardization. The study will form the basis for obtaining data on a regional basis, performing biological activity tests, standardizing bee venom, and making it into an apiceutic product. The aim of the project is to characterize the chemical content and bioactivity of the Anatolian Bee venom by making regional samples. This study is the first detailed research to be conducted to determine the quality of Anatolian bee venom. In the project, proteomic analysis of venom samples collected from bee farms produced in accordance with standards will be carried out, and protein contents will be determined by performing bioinformatic analysis of mass spectrometry data. In addition, HPLC fractions will be analyzed by SDS-PAGE. Proteomic characterization of Anatolian bee venom using liquid chromatography-sequential mass spectrometry will be performed for the first time in the literature. The cytotoxic effects of venom samples from different regions on healthy human cell lines and human cancer cell line panels in the cell culture system will be investigated. In cancer cell lines where the cytotoxic effects of venom samples were determined, the effects on apoptosis and cell cycle will be analyzed and studies on the mechanism of action will be carried out. The data to be obtained will provide scientific data in the development of this field in Turkey, will encourage bee producers in our country to produce bee venom, and will provide researchers with basic information during the development of standardization. Thus, by encouraging the Anatolian bee venom to take place in the world market, it will be possible to contribute to the country's economy.
