Project no. 22712 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021

Summary

With the advancing technology, a need has emerged for raising individuals who question and research by moving the education system out of its memorization-based routine. Particularly in the field of physical education and sports, where cognitive, affective and psychomotor characteristics are inseparable parts of one another, the use of technology in teaching activities is of great importance. The aim of the present study was to determine how teaching methods and techniques used in physical education classes are designed in relation to the evolving technology and how physical education teachers’ attitudes to use technology in their lessons are affected in this process. The present study used the meta-analysis method, drawing on previous studies. The population of the study consisted of physical education and sports teachers with the aim of determining their attitudes towards technological advances. A total of 11 studies comprising articles and theses carried out on the topic in both Turkish and English languages were included in the analysis. With the meta-analysis method used in the study, the answer to a focused question was interpreted systematically in a critical manner in the light of the findings obtained in the last fifteen years studies. For a systematic and objective interpretation of the results of the meta-analysis, Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software (CMA) 3.0 and OpenMeta Analysis programs were used in data analysis. As a result of the meta-analysis, which was conducted according to the gender variable, a small and insignificant effect size was found according to the fixed effects (d= 0.123) and random effects (d= 0.121) model. These effect size values showed that male teachers had higher attitudes towards technology compared to female teachers. Scatter plot diagram was generated to investigate publication bias in the meta-analysis. According to the results of the scatter plot diagram, it was seen that no publication bias existed in the studies included in the research. VII In conclusion, it was understood that physical education teachers’ attitudes were higher in favour of male teachers. The fact that male teachers’ attitudes towards technology are higher compared to female teachers can be associated with male teachers’ greater interest in technology. In the present meta-analysis study, which was conducted based on recent studies, physical education and sports teachers were considered. It is recommended that studies conducted with physical education and sports teacher candidates be included in future studies to be effective in instructional planning.

Keywords; Physical Education and Sport Teacher; Attitude; Educational Technology; Meta Analysis
