Investigation of SNPs in Octapamine, Tyramine, Dopamine and Adenosine Receptor Genes as Selection Criteria on Hygienic Behavior Performance in Efe (Apis mellifera anatoliaca) and Efe F1 Bees

Project no. 75598 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022

Summary

In this project, genetic factors affecting the hygienic behavior performance of Efe (Apis mellifera anatoliaca) bee and Efe F1 bees, which are of great importance for the beekeeping sector of our country, were investigated. Hygienic behaviour is vital for honeybees to detect and remove diseased or dead broods from their hives. This feature prevents the spread of infections in the colony, protecting the overall colony health and ensuring the sustainability of the bee population. It is known that some genes have an effect on hygienic behavior performance. In the study, it was examined whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in octopamine, tyramine, dopamine and adenosine receptor genes are a selection criterion on hygienic behavioral performance.

Research findings show that certain single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the octapamine and tyramine receptor genes exert significant effects on hygienic behavior performance. It is thought that these genetic variations can be considered as a potential selection criterion in increasing the disease resistance of bee colonies. In line with the data obtained, it is recommended to create bee colonies resistant to diseases with lines with improved hygienic behavior performance in the future.

Keywords: Apis mellifera anatolica, hygienic behavior, octopamine, tyramine
