PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF DRY POWDER INHALER FORMULATIONS BY SPRAY DRYING METHOD

Project no. 369 · Status: Kapanmış · 2012

Summary

Dry powder inhaler formulations, having an important role among pulmonary drug delivery systems, were prepared by spray drying method and characterized, and in vitro performance tests were performed with new generation impactor system. The formulations were prepared using several excipients (mannitol as carrier, trehalose as stabilizing agent, leucine as dispersion enhancing excipient) and polymers (polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone / vinyl acetate copolymer). The effect of the mesh size of the vibrating plate as the process parameter was investigated. Characterization studies were carried out as surface tension of preparation solutions, particle size and distribution of prepared formulations, critical relative humidity and solid state characterization studies. As a result, a significant improvement has been made towards the preparation of dry powder inhaler formulations which are not affected by the physicochemical properties of the active substance.
