Summary

In this thesis study, a study has been carried out on the removal of Bisphenol A, one of the pollutants that adversely affect human health and cause endocrine system disorders due to the threat of anthropogenic toxic pollutants that are not suitable for human consumption in the water resources that occur with the development of industrial and agricultural activities. Bisphenol A is one of the endocrine disrupting hormones that adversely affect human health even when it is present in water in very small amounts. In water resources, endocrine disrupting hormones can often be mixed directly or indirectly. Therefore, cleaning Bisphenol A from water is an extremely important issue in order to use water resources efficiently. Studies on the removal of Bisphenol A from water with polymeric adsorbent resins, which are nanoporous polystrenic (PAD 400) and porous polyacrylic crosslinked with divinilbenzene (PAD 610), have been carried out using the adsorption method. Comparison of BPA adsorption by using different nanoporous polymeric adsorbents, the effect of pH on BPA adsorption, equilibrium studies and kinetic studies were conducted and their effects were investigated. As a result, it has been found that the optimum amount of adsorbent is 0.2 g / 20 mL for both adsorbents. It has been observed that pH does not have a significant effect on the adsorption of BPA at various pH values tested. The ionic strength of the solution showed a similar effect on two different concentrations in the studies conducted with the PAD 400 adsorbent. In the studies conducted with the PAD 610 adsorbent, it was observed that the higher the concentration, the lower the removal efficiency of BPA. It has been observed that the Freundlich isotherm better describes both adsorption since it has higher correlation coefficients in the adsorption isotherm for ionic strength. When the two adsorbents were compared, it was seen that the PAD 400 adsorbent was able to adsorb BPA appropriately and has a more heterogeneous structure. It was observed that the higher the temperature for both adsorbents, the better the BPA removal. In the adsorption isotherm for temperature, the highest correlation coefficients of BPA for both adsorbents were found to be suitable for the Freundlich isotherm. As a result of the kinetic studies, it was observed that the adsorption kinetic speeds were quite fast at the beginning, slowed down gradually and reached equilibrium after a while for both adsorbents. As a kinetic model, pseudo-second-order kinetic model was appropriate because it has the highest correlation coefficients.
