Examination of the use of alginate-based adsorbent for the determination of aluminum
Project no. 23760 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022
Summary

Aluminum is used in construction, electrical-electronics, and food sectors, and its usage is increasingly growing along with the developing industry. This situation leads to the contamination of the environment, water, and food materials with aluminum, adversely affecting the health of plants, animals, and humans that are in interaction with the environment and consume contaminated foods. Aluminum accumulates in various tissues such as the liver, heart, and spleen in the body. Therefore, the preconcentration and determination of trace amounts of aluminum are of great importance.

Within the scope of this project, it is aimed to use an alginate-based adsorbent with magnetic properties for the preconcentration purpose before the fluorometric determination of trace amounts of aluminum using the morin ligand. The use of the adsorbent to be used is intended to contribute to the literature as an alternative adsorbent for the determination/removal of aluminum in aqueous samples. The use of this adsorbent, which has not been previously used for the separation/preconcentration of aluminum, is simple and fast to produce, and is inexpensive, is thought to be of great importance in the preconcentration/determination of trace amounts of aluminum when combined with the sensitivity of fluorescence.
