Investigation of the Validity and Reliability of the The Sustained Auditory Attention Capacity Test in Children with Hearing Loss and Normal Hearing
Project no. 32005 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2024
Summary

The aim of the study is to develop the Sustained Auditory Attention Capacity Test (SAACT), evaluate its criterion validity and reliability, and compare the performance of individuals with hearing loss and individuals with normal hearing on the SAACT and Continuous Performance Test (MOXO d-CPT). The study will be conducted in two phases. In the first stage, the words to be used will be determined, audio recordings will be made, and a computer-based test will be developed with the assistance of a computer engineer. In the second stage, the criterion validity and reliability of the test will be evaluated. In this stage, the SAACT will first be administered to all individuals, and the results of the developed test will be compared to examine known group validity. The criterion validity of the SAACT will be assessed using the MOXO d-CPT and the auditory attention subscale of the Children's Auditory Performance Scale (CHAPS). Subsequently, the SAACT will be re-administered to all individuals to assess its test-retest reliability. The test and retest results will be evaluated by determining the intraclass correlation coefficient. The study expects the intraclass correlation coefficient of the test and retest measurements to be at least r=0.6 at 95% confidence (1-α) and 95% test power (1-β). For criterion validity, a meaningful relationship is expected between the SAACT and MOXO d-CPT at 95% confidence (1-α), 95% test power (1-β), and an effect size of at least r=0.6. Following these stages, the final version of the software will be provided, with corrections made to the software if necessary. The study will include 30 children aged 8-16 with hearing loss (using hearing aids and cochlear implants) and 30 age- and gender-matched children with normal hearing. The study is expected to reveal a statistically significant difference between the MOXO d-CPT and the SAACT. No Turkish auditory attention test has yet been developed for children with hearing loss in the literature. The validity and reliability study of the SİDKT to be conducted in this study on hearing-impaired and normal-hearing individuals aged 8-16 will contribute to the literature as the first of its kind in this field.
