BIOGAS, HYDROCHAR AND BIOCHEMICAL PRODUCTION FROM SPENT COFFEE GROUNDS WITH BIOREFINERY APPROACH INTEGRATING HYDROTHERMAL CARBONIZATION AND ANAEROBIC DIGESTION

Project no. 30780 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2023

Summary

In this project, hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) and anaerobic digestion (AD) will be integrated to produce hydrochar, biochemical substances, and biogas. Waste coffee grounds will be used as substrate for the hydrochar, and waste sludge from the anaerobic tanks of a yeast factory will be used as inoculum. By integrating hydrothermal carbonization and anaerobic digestion, the hydrochar obtained after the hydrothermal carbonization of solid biomass waste will be used as a substrate in anaerobic digestion to achieve better biogas yield. Additionally, the project aims to investigate the optimal conditions for a biorefinery approach that integrates thermochemical and biological methods. The use of waste coffee grounds, a lignocellulosic biomass waste available in large quantities, and waste sludge will reduce the harmful environmental impacts of these wastes, improve waste management, and contribute to the replacement of fossil resources with green energy sources by providing hydrochar, biochemical substances, and methane-rich biogas that can be used as energy, heat, or electricity. Analyses will be conducted on the yield of hydrochar, biochemical substances, and biogas, observing parameters to achieve better yields with the zero waste principle and biorefinery approach.
