İndigo karmin (indigo carmine) ve nötral kırmızısı (neutral red) boyar maddelerinin elektro-Fenton yöntemi ile çözeltiden uzaklaştırılmasının incelenmesi (PRATİK)

Project no. 23500 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022

Summary

In the content of our project, investigation of removal of indigo carmine and neutral red dyes from solution by electro-Fenton method is conducted. Platinum mesh netting and graphite felt were used as cathode materials and platinum wire was used as the anode material, for this purpose. An eight hour monitorization was performed solution phase at pH 2.5-3.5 range, containing sodium sulfate as electrolyte and iron (II) sulfate as catalyst, where dissolved oxygen and 400 rpm magnetic stirring was provided. Based on the UV-Vis spectrums of the samples stored in 1.5mL volume Eppendorf tubes, degredation rate of both dyes was observed lower than expected. Among the experimental parameters that are mostly in agreement with the papers in literature related to degredation of dyes by electro-Fenton method, only cathode surface area was observed not to be big enough. Therefore hydroxyl radical was produced at lower level than expected and dyes were degredated at lower levels. On the other hand, observed decrease in the UV-Vis spectrum of dyes during the eight hour monitorization pointed out that even at least a partial success of degradation process by electro-Fenton method was achieved. At the end of a 360 minute electro-Fenton method monitorization process; Decolorization Percent for indigo carmine (DP%) was calculated as = [(1.9-1.8)/1.9]x100 = 5.26%. DP% for neutral red was calculated as = [(0.85-0.7)/0.85]x100 = 17.65% for the first run and as = [(0,84-0,75)/0,84]x100 = 10.71% for the second run. It’s been concluded that a far more effective degradation will be achieved if the monitorization time was increased from eight to twenty four hours.
