Designing of Protective Aramid Glove Having High Performance Characteristics

Project no. 21183 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019

Summary

Protective gloves are a part of protective technical textiles (Protech) and they are especially used by military, security forces, firemen, rescue teams, miners and workers in the road construction, nuclear plants, chemical, electrical/electronic and heavy industry sectors. In this project, protective aramid gloves which have high performance characteristics, is aimed to be developed for the use of personal protective equipments in occupational safety and health. For this purpose, aramid gloves were knitted by varying production parameters (twisting and yarn feeding ratio) and these gloves were coated with TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) and latex materials. The dimensional, physical and mechanical resistance properties were tested; the effects of the above mentioned production parameters and coating material type were investigated. As a result of this study it can be seen that coating process has dominant effect on the performance properties of the aramid protective gloves compared with twisting and yarn feding ratio parameters. Coating with TPU and latex have a positive impact on resistance to abrasion, puncture and cutting properties of the gloves. On the other hand coating with TPU led to an increase in the abrasion and cutting resistance values of the gloves.
