Summary

Developing concrete technology enables the use of special concretes for various purposes responding to changing needs and improving the engineering properties. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is one of the special concrete types performing improved fresh and hardened properties. In order to ensure adequate resistance of SCC to segregation, additional care is required. It is also important to develop practical test methods for determining the quality of SCC, which is more susceptible to segregation. In this project, the test methods for SCC, the necessary materials, equipment and apparatus were obtained and the tests within the scope of the study were planned. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of reinforcement diameter and placement on the workability properties of SCC. For this purpose, SCC mixtures having two different maximum aggregate sizes (15 mm and 22.4 mm) were prepared. Within the scope of the study, a functional mold test device was designed to allow different reinforcement diameters and placements The bottom and side plates of the mold are made of transparent plexiglass. The slump-flow, relative viscosity (T500) and visual stability index values of the SCC mixtures designed in this study were determined. The flow properties and segregation conditions of the self-compacting concrete mixtures were investigated according to various reinforcement diameters and placements. According to the results of the experiments; as the reinforcement diameter increased, the flow characteristics of the SCC decreased, and the segregation coefficient increased. It has been observed that SCC has poor transition characteristics and decomposition resistance due to increased maximum aggregate size.
