Natural Product Isolation, Purification and Structural Determination from Propolis Collected from Different Region of Turkish Republic of North Cyprus
Project no. 21205 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019
Summary
There are many studies all over the world on the chemical content of propolis. Purification and structural determination studies were carried out and new compounds with different structures were gained to the literature. In our country and in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), there is no study about a new compound isolation and/or activities of this compound. Thus, in this study, it is aimed to determine the chemical content of propolis collected from 7 different regions of TRNC and isolation, purification and structural determination studies of natural compounds from the propolis mixture obtained. Considering the very different climate and flora of the TRNC, the content of propolis is expected to be very different compared to the world and new compounds purification are expected. The phenolic, flavanoid and triterpene contents of TRNC propolis by LC-HRMS has been studied, for the first time. In addition; isolation, purification and structural determination studies were achieved from these combined 7 propolis samples. For the chemical content analysis, ethanol-water extracts of propolis collected from 7 different regions were prepared, separately. Besides, the extracts of combined propolis samples were prepared for isolation studies. Two different natural compounds were isolated from the prepared extracts by applying many different chromatographic techniques (column, preparative thin layer, vacuum liquid, flash and medium performance liquid chromatography). Advanced spectroscopic techniques (1 and 2 dimensional NMR and Mass analysis) and some chemical methods (acidic, alkaline hydrolysis, derivatization etc.) were used for the structural determination of the natural compounds of which purification was completed. Thus, many new studies will be created in different fields such as medicine, food, cosmetics, etc. in the future by these isolated natural compounds and Cypriot propolis of which chemical content was determined.
