THE INVESTIGATION OF THE CAFESTOL LOADED BIOPOLYMER NANOPARTICLES PROPERTIES
Project no. 21692 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary
Cafestol (CFS) is one of the more than a thousand chemical compounds that make up the structure of coffee. CFS, which is known to be more present in unfiltered coffee types such as Turkish coffee and Scandinavian coffee, has antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogenic properties. CFS compound was loaded into Chitosan (CS), Alginate (Alg) and Alginate-Chitosan (Alg-CS) nanoparticles with high efficiency and their structural, morphological, particle size as well as thermal properties were characterized. In-vitro release studies of CFS-loaded biopolymers were carried out in pH 7,4 and 4,6 mediums, analytical method validation studies of CFS were performed with high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Blank and CFS loaded biopolymer nanoparticles were synthesized with encapsulation efficiency of 53% (CFS-Alg NP), 54% (CFS-Alg-CS NP) and 92% (CFS-CS NP) in the 62- 112 nm range. It was determined that the nanoparticles showed a varying release profile depending on the type of biopolymer between 6 and 57 hours. As a result; CS, Alg and AlgCS nanoparticles can be carrier systems for CFS.
