Summary
This study investigates the main dynamics of structural transformation of Turkey's manufacturing industry in the light of two economic crisis of world economy in 1973 and 2008. In this respect, first, general view of the manufacturing industry in the developed (core) economies and Turkey has been compared and opened to debate. Secondly, “Turkey’s Top 500 Industrial Enterprises Survey” compiled by Istanbul Chamber of Industry was opened to debate to make a detailed analysis over large companies in Turkey regarding production value, sales value, value added, number of workers and export value. Findings of the study revealed that there is a impact lag on general Turkey's manufacturing sector during crisis of capitalism in the core, but the effects of crisis on large industrial enterprises can be monitored simultaneously. In one hand the sectoral distribution of production in manufacturing changed after crisis, on the other hand import dependence of production, small business based production structure, and the basic structural problems, such as specialization in low and medium technology intensive production remained same.
