The Relationship Between the Force Generation in the Isometric Squat and Bench Press Exercises and the Lower and Upper Body Anaerobic Power Parameters
Project no. 850 · Status: Kapanmış · 2014
Summary
The aim of this study is to investigate possible relationships between the muscular force in the isometric bench press and squat movements and the Wingate anaerobic test results for the upper and lower body and to investigate possible associations between the Wingate test results and the explosive isometric force. 18 healthy male volunteer athletes with at least 2 years of strength training who did not have any back pain and upper extremity injuries were included in the study. The physical characteristics of the participants were; age: 23,37 ± 1,65, height: 178,37 ± 5,67, body mass; 76.69 ± 3.73. During the 2 test sessions conducted by the athletes in 48 hours intervals; 1 Repeated Maximum (1 TM), isometric squat and isometric bench press tests and anaerobic power tests with Wingate Anaerobic Power and arm ergometer. Pearson product-moment correlation test results obtained from the study; showed a high degree of correlation between isometric squat (Squatiso) and lower body Peak Power and Average Power (r(14)= .766, p < .001 and r(14)= .690, p < .003 respectively), but there was no significant relationship between Squatiso and Fatigue Index (p >.05). In addition to this, a high level of correlation between upper body Peak Power and Average Power was determined with isometric bench press (r(14)= .620, p < .010 and r(14)= .749, p < .001 respectively). As a result; the development and maintenance of isometric strength characteristics and other similar muscle contraction components for long-term performance as well as eccentric force characteristics in terms of contribution to force development and performance will provide significant benefits in terms of performance. However, periodic measurements of the maximum power and strength performances of the athletes with field tests and laboratory test batteries according to the characteristics of the sports branch can also provide significant contributions to the coaches and researchers.
