THE ROLE OF VITAMIN D RECEPTOR GENE POLYMORPHISM IN NECROTIZING ENTEROCOLITIS PATHOGENESIS
Project no. 93 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Objective: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an important reason for morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Pathogenesis of NEC is still unknown and this is effective for these morbidity and mortality. Recent studies have shown that genetic polymorphisms may be associated with perinatal morbidity, including NEC. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential role of Fok 1 C>T polymorphism of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene, NEC which is a common, life-threatening neonatal gastrointestinal disease in preterm infants. Materials and Methods: The study was performed between January 2013 and December 2016,at Children Hospital of Ege University, Department of Neonatology. 74 premature baby with NEC and 147 premature baby without NEC were included to the study. All babies were under 36nd gestational week.VDR Fok1 C>T gene polymorphisims were analyzed with PCR and RFLP at 221 premature baby. Results: The average gestational age was 28.45±3.01 week (22-32 weeks), the average birth weight was 1157.4±504.75(596-2250) g in the NEC group. The average gestational age was 32.40±3.67 week (25-36 weeks), the average birth weight was 1995.2±857.984 (580-2780) in the control group. VDR Fok1 gene CC (wild type), CT(heterozygote type) and TT(variant type) genotype frequencies were 41.9%, 43,2%, and 14.9% in the NEC group. VDR Fok1 gene CC, CT and TT genotype frequencies were 51.7%,41.5% and6.8% in the control group There were a significant differences between the NEC and control groups for genotype distributions VDR Fok1 C/T gene polymorphisms. There were no significant differences between NEC stage, sex and diagnosis time with VDR gene polymorphisms Conclusion: These results suggest that vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism is associated with development of NEC.
