Conservation Biology of Campanula phitosiana
Project no. 29631 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023
Summary

Conservation biology has been studied on the endemic plant species Campanula phitosiana Yıldırım & Şentürk. General data about the plant has been gathered in relation to conservation biology such as species identification, analysis of it’s rocky habitat, pollinators, ecology, reproductive system, propagation biology, yield, self-fertility, karyology, and the rate of sprouting in different qualities.

The plant habitat covers a total of 5.76 km2 area with a population of 14,116. The plant is fertilized through four pollinator families among which Megachilidae and Halictidae are the leading two pollinator families. Pollinators are functioning from 09:00 to 17:00 hours. The plant is peculiar to the Tire county of Izmir city. It’s IUCN category is CR B2ab (ii, iii, v). The pollen within a single flower of the plant does not fertilize the ovules in the same flower. The rocky content has been detected as pH neutral, poor in salt, lacking in lime, humus-free, low in potassium, sufficient in iron, good in copper and manganese, with a sandy structure, mediocre in phosphorus, very low in calcium, insufficient in sodium, and with adequate level of zinc. At the last grade of the flower with 48.53% viability produces 6,648,330 pollen grains and 1,153 ovules. The success rate of converting ovules into seeds is approximately 53.87%. The seeds demonstrate a viability of about 43.25%. In the germination exercise, it was found that storing the seeds at low temperatures and without disinfection but treating them with 500 ppm GA3 resulted in the fastest germination on the tenth day, with a germination rate of 60% on the fifteenth day..

Keywords: Campanula, Tire, Conservation Biology, endemic plant, germination.
