DIABETES MANAGEMENT PLATFORM: DEVELOPING A BIG DATA AWARE MULTI-PARTNER AND COLLABORATIVE DATA MANAGEMENT INFRASTRUCTURE
Project no. 773 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Diabetes is an important public health problem that causes early deaths, disability if not under control, and negative effects for the quality of life. The growing number of the diabetes patients can be prevented by the Turkey’s Diabetes Program by determining the diabetes strategy’s goals and actions for the years 2015-2020. In order to achieve these goals and actions, diabetes management should be handled with a multi-stakeholder and collaborative approach. In this project, a data management platform that uses internet technologies of big data and Internet of Things was developed. Techniques, methods, algorithms and services have been developed to collect, store, query, process, analyze and publish data for diabetes management. In the project, previous studies related to the health sector were examined and a patient monitoring application working on mobile devices was implemented. Within the project carried out with the collaboration of the teams in the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Computer Engineering of Ege University, Diabetes ontology was developed in order to provide diabetes management by combining the information coming from many different data sources. The developed ontology is integrated with other ontologies in the literature and workflows are defined with the stakeholders to propose and identify diabetes types and preventive diabetes methods. To implement the defined workflows within the ontology space, rules have been defined. The mobile application developed for the use of different stakeholders was built on the Android operating system that is the most widely used operating system in the world. With this mobile application and ontology space, the patient is aimed to have a more active role during the diabetes disease by following up on his own data; By taking into consideration the patient and doctor interaction, it is provided that the patient's data can be followed and evaluated by his doctor.
