Synthesis of ZnO nanocrystals doped with different ions and investigation of their luminescence properties

Project no. 219 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Materials which can emit the absorbed energy as visible light are called phosphorus. They composed of host materials activated by rare earth and/or transition elements. ZnO is one of the interesting material since it has a wide band gap and exciton binding energy. Due to its related properties, ZnO has wide applications in solar cells, biosensors, optoelectronic, magnetic, biomedical etc. Materials having nanometer-sized particles are called nanomaterials. Nanomaterials have been used in several applications compared to other materials because of their superior and different properties, and they are therefore pioneered to a new area. Recently, there has been an enormous effort in new material research and their application after technological improvements. Therefore, it is very important to synthesize, develop and their characterizations. In this project, 0.5%, 1% ve 2% Co doped nanosized ZnO by using hydrothermal synthesis method, undoped,, and undoped and 1.5% Tm doped nanosized ZnO using combustion method were synthesized. Their crystal structures were identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. To determine the particle sizes SEM images of the samples were taken. Finally, luminescence properties of the materials were investigated by using thermoluminescence, photoluminescence and radioluminescence techniques. Keywords: ZnO, Thermoluminescence, Radioluminescence, Photoluminescence
