Evaluation of Level-of-Service with HCM 2010 in Weaving Segments

Summary
Lane changes are frequently encountered at weaving segments which are formed when a merge area is closely followed by a diverge area. Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) 2010 has offered a methodology to determine the level-of-service at weaving segments. This methodology which brings new approaches compared to HCM 2000 is used for two weaving segments in Izmir in order to determine the level-of-service. In addition, the upstream and downstream sections of the weaving segments were observed and the effect of the lane changes was investigated. It is further discussed whether the method is suitable for the weaving segments being examined.
