Removal of Manganese (II) from aqueous solution by leonardite

Project no. 21558 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020

Summary

In this work, leonardite was applied for Mn2+ removal from aqueous solutions. The effects of sorbent dose and initial solution pH on the removal of Mn2+ were investigated. In addition, Mn2+ removal mechanism and reaction kinetics were determined by sorption isotherms and kinetic studies. Manganese is determined by air-acetylene flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The optimum sorbent dose for Mn2+ removal found as 0.3 g, and the working pH range found as 5.0 – 6.5. Kinetic studies showed that removal of Mn2+ is fast and in 120 minutes, 75 % of Mn2+removal achieved. Isotherm sorption data displayed a good correlation with the Langmuir model. Removal of Mn2+ by leonardite sorbent was a spontaneous process (?G<0). The Mn-loaded leonardite can be regenerated with 0.1 M HCl or H2SO4. Key Words: Leonardite, Manganese, Water treatment
