Project no. 822 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Aim: It was carried out to examine the effect of standard patient simulation on students' anxiety levels, communication and counseling skills in family planning counseling education of nursing students. Material and Method: This research is a semi-experimental study with single group pretest-posttest. The sample of the study consisted of 44 students in the second grade of Ege University Faculty of Nursing. Student Information Form, State Anxiety Inventory, Communication Skills Inventory, Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning Scale, Simulation Design Scale, Educational Practices Questionnaire and Family Planning Counseling Skill Learning Guides were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics (number, percentage, mean, standard deviation) were used to evaluate the data. To determine the difference between pre-test and post-test; Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used in nonparametric assumptions and a t-test was used in dependent groups for those conforming to parametric assumptions. Results: The mean of students' age is 21.22 ± 1.05 and 81.8% of them are women. The mean of the State Anxiety Inventory before the First Standard Patient Simulation was 43.81 ± 6.78, and the mean of the State Anxiety Inventory before the Second Standard Patient Simulation was 39.23 ± 5.11. It was found that there is a significant difference between after the First Standard Patient Simulation and the Second Standard Patient Simulation to students' mean scores of State Anxiety Inventory, Communication Skills Inventory, Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning Scale, Simulation Design Scale, Educational Practices Questionnaire and Family Planning Counseling Skills (p?0.05). Conclusion: Repeated simulation practice with Standard Patients has contributed positively to reducing anxiety of students, increasing students' learning satisfaction and selfconfidence, developing communication skills and family planning counseling skills. Key words: nursing, standart patient, repeated simulation.
