Özet

A greenhouse study was performed in order to examine and compare the mechaponic system - seedling production with the other classical methods. In this regard, a 2- year trial was carried out with 2 summer and 2 winter vegetables which were grown in 9 different classical- growing media. Also, each vegetable was studied in 2 different production seasons. Seedlings were examined for their development, quality properties and mineral nutrition with respect to the tested production systems and growing media. Significant differences were found between the treatments. Results showed that the seedlings of the mechaponic system were taller and had thinner stems than the seedlings of the other production systems. Yet, there were some differences if the seedlings of the mechanopic system are compared in terms of different growing media . In this regard, findings obtained from the zeolite-peat and perlite-peat media were similar which might indicate zeolite as an alternative to perlite. Results and the observations through out the vegetation period showed that mechaponic system could be used in seedling production. However, more studies are still needed in order to optimize seedling development, promote quality and manage light in greenhouses. It is concluded that if the above cited suggestions are fullfilled , mechaponic system yield almost three times more than the other classical systems tested in this study.

Keywords: Mechaponic system, seedling, growing media, quality, comparing, vegetable, mineral nutrition, classical seedling production
