Summary

Purpose: The main aim of this study is to develop " Insulin Infusion Pump Set Application Skills Scale of Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes ", which can evaluate Insulin Infusion Pump Set Application Skills in adolescents.

Methods: The research is a methodologically designed scale development study. It was conducted with adolescents aged 12-18 years who were followed up with the diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes in the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Department of Ege University Children's Hospital and agreed to participate in the study. In the data collection method, the 'Descriptive Information Form' and the developed 'Insulin Infusion Pump Set Application Skills draft Form' with 25 items were used. For the scope validity of the 'Insulin Infusion Pump Set Application Skills draft form'; Davis Technique was used. For its validity and reliability; Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, item-total score correlations, explanatory and confirmatory factor analyzes were applied.

Results: The Insulin Infusion Pump Set Application Skills Scale of Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes explained 65.067 % of the total variance. It consists of six sub-dimensions and 18 items. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value of the scale was found to be 0.730, Bartlett's Test X2 = 105,721statistically advanced level significant. The content validity index of the scale items was 0.92; factor loads 0.491-0.877; item score correlations were 0.300-0.757 and the compatibility of the sub-dimensions was 0.440-0.801. Cronbach alpha values of six sub-dimensions; Security = 0.761; Set preparation = 0.726; Control = 0.690; Pre-operation preparation = 0.730; Application preparation = 0.383; Conservation = 0.452. The fit criteria obtained by confirmatory factor analysis; RMSEA=0.068, CFI=0.900; GFI=0.891; AGFI=0.842; RMR=0.071; IFI=0.904; TLI=0.871 was found. According to the CFA results, it was seen that the scale was at an acceptable level of conformity and its construct validity was appropriate.

Conclusion: The "Insulin Infusion Pump Set Application Skills Scale for Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes", which we developed in our research, is a five-point Likert-type scale and is a valid and reliable scale consisting of 18 items and 6 sub-dimensions. It was concluded that it can be used to evaluate the Insulin Infusion Pump Set application Skills of adolescents with Type 1 diabetes who use an insulin infusion pump in Turkish society.
