Summary

The impact of gender inequality on economic growth has been a topic of intense debate in recent years. While some studies reveal a negative correlation between the two variables, other studies point to a positive correlation. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of gender inequality on economic growth in OECD countries. This study presents empirical findings on the impact of gender inequalities on economic growth, especially in the areas of education, labor market and institutional representation. In this study, data obtained from the World Bank Development Indicators database for the period 1990-2021 are used. These data are analyzed with dynamic panel data models (Arellano-Bond, Arnellano-Bundell GMM). The findings show that there is a statistically significant and inverse relationship between the Gender Inequality Index and economic growth rate. It shows that promoting gender equality in education plays an important role in promoting economic growth in OECD countries. The statistical significance of the female-to-male ratio in labor market participation is not conclusive. There is also a significant correlation between women's representation in parliamentary bodies and economic growth in a larger sample of developing countries. Despite women's increased participation in the political sphere in these countries, women still face significant barriers to changing the political agenda and influencing economic progress. Policymakers therefore need to pursue approaches that increase investment and encourage women's participation in education and the labor force to ensure sustainable economic growth.
