EFFECT OF SALT AND POLYMER ADDITIVES ON LYOTROPIC HEXAGONAL LIQUID CRYSTAL PHASE’S GEOMETRIC PARAMETERS
Project no. 28509 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023
Summary

In this project, the hexagonal phase of lyotropic liquid crystals, which is a mesophase of liquid crystals, was studied. Ammonium Chloride (NH4Cl) and Ammonium Bromide (NH4Br) salts at different concentrations were added to a mixture of 44% SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) + 56% water, which is known to have hexagonal phase properties, and then Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP10), which is known to be a well-soluble polymer in water, was added to these mixtures created separately was added and the geometric parameters of the hexagonal phase were examined. The pattern images of the obtained results under polarized optical microscopy (POM) and the physical properties of the formed interphases were examined. The change in structural parameters and the molecular structure were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) method was used to determine the heat flow rates or structural transition temperatures of the system, and finally the small angle X-ray scattering method (SAXS), which is used for purposes such as solving structural details and molecular shapes. The obtained results were compared with each other and the similarities and differences were determined.
