Investigation of The Effectiveness of Different Types of Terracing Applications in Laboratory Conditions According to Soil Protection Factor (P)

Project no. 23800 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022

Summary

In this research, it was aimed to simulate Bornova Stream Basin conditions (rainfall, slope and soil structure) and alternative soil-water conservation measures (back sloping step terrace, trench terrace, perpendicular furrow to slope, vegetation cover, vegetated back slope step terrace, vegetated trench terrace, vegetated slope perpendicular furrow) as P factor in laboratory environment and to determine the effects of each conservation measure on erosion caused by rainfall. For this purpose, firstly, the characteristic rainfall of the basin was simulated in the laboratory. Then, model applications representing the protection measures were designed on the test plots prepared in the laboratory to represent the slope and soil characteristics of the basin. Then, the effectiveness of these conservation measures was analysed by determining the amounts of runoff, soil loss and drainage under simulated rainfall conditions in the test plots. The results showed that these conservation measures significantly increased drainage while decreasing runoff and prevented soil loss. Vegetated measures were more effective in reducing soil erosion. Stepped terraces sloping backwards and furrows perpendicular to the slope were less effective than vegetated measures. Among all measures, trench terraces were found to be less effective. These results revealed that vegetation cover is a very effective soil protection measure in reducing erosion in Bornova Stream Basin.
