Summary
DEVELOPING A SOCK WITH IMPROVED COMFORT PROPERTIES Consumers have become more conscious and they have been demanding many characteristics from textile products. Although socks have short lifetime, they are expected to fulfill many requirements such as durability, dimensional stability and clothing comfort. Socks are used in direct contact with the skin and within a closed environment as the shoe. Therefore, thermal comfort provided by the sock is crucial for foot health. The opinion of “natural fibers provide health and comfort” is popular among consumers. However, using new fibers which offer various functional characteristics in sock production is expected to improve clothing comfort and support foot health. For this purpose, various functional yarns were provided and samples were knitted in different knit structures. Knitted samples were investigated in terms of mechanical properties and thermal comfort. Data obtained from the experimental part of the study were evaluated statistically in terms of knit structure and functional yarns’ effect in these structures. In the scope of the analysis, suggestions were made for knit structure and yarn type in order to improve sock comfort.
