The Investigations on The Detection of The Agents of Viral Diseases in Tomato Seeds and Their Inactivation Ways
Project no. 1094 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
The present study was conducted to detect the agents of viral diseases in seeds of tomatoes which are important for fresh consumption and seed production in Turkey. Also, to inactivate the viral agents determined in seeds and to develop an effective management program against these viral agents were another target in this work. For the study in question; total 135 seed samples were collected from the growers and seed companies and serological and molecular methods were used for the detection of viral agents in these samples. The data from the experiments showed that 135 tomato seed samples were infected with Tobacco mosaic tobamovirus (TMV), Tomato mosaic tobamovirus (ToMV), Cucumber mosaic cucumovirus (CMV) and Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) at the rates of %9, %8, %7 and %1 respectively. In the further stage of the study, 5 different types of inactivation treatments were applied. As a result of these studies, the most effective treatments which reduced the concentration of viruses in seeds were HCl (%82), hot water (%65) and UV (%54).
