USE OF MICROALGAE IN INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Project no. 1070 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
The aim of this project is to investigate the treatment of industrial wastewater (textile industry wastewater) by using microalgae and to determine the treatment efficiency. For this purpose, the effect of textile industry wastewater on the growth of green microalgae Oocystis solitaria (Wittrock, 1879) was investigated by chlorophyll-based (Chl a and Chl b). The efficiency of removal of NO2-N, NO3-N, PO4-P, COD parameters by using microalgae was investigated and the pH, temperature, salinity, conductivity parameters were followed. Oocystis solitaria (Wittrock, 1879), which is used in the study, was obtained from the microalgae collection of Ecotechnology Laboratory at Department of Marine–Inland Waters Sciences and Technology, Fisheries Faculty, Ege University. The studies were carried out with the samples taken from two different points of the textile wastewater treatment plant in Aydın Söke (active sludge effluent, effluent). According to the results obtained; O.solitaria biomass yield grown in the textile industry wastewater, respectively, for trial groups 10 and 6 days; 533- 92% C (control), 151-134% E (effluent) and 565-348% ASE (active sludge effluent). Wastewater removal efficiencies of N, P, COD respectively; % 67-72 NO2, 28-45% NO3, 85-90% PO4, 97-98% COD was obtained. With this study, it was determined that O. solitaria species had a high potential for the phycoremediation of textile wastewater and, moreover, the potential for the use of textile wastewater to cultivate O. solitaria species.
