Nervus Occipitalis Major – Topografik Anatomisi, Sinir Sıkışma Noktaları ve Histolojik Değerlendirmesi
Project no. 151 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
Objectives: In order to guide the occipital blockages frequently applied in the clinic, we aimed to evaluate the topographic anatomy, nerve compression points and histology of the greater occipital nerve (GON). Materials and Methods: GON was dissected using 20 cadaver heads fixed with 10% formalin. Distances of nerve compression points to external occipital protuberance (EOP) were measured. Histochemical and immunohistochemical staining were analyzed. The findings were evaluated statistically. Results: Lateral location of the GON from EOP at the first compression point, where it exits the obliquus capitis inferior, was 21,3±4,6 mm (right) and 22,5±3,6 mm(left) in females; 27,2±6,5 mm (right) and 27,3±5 mm (left) in males. Lateral distance of the point where semispinalis capitis muscle pierces, was 10,7±5,1 mm and 15,8±3,9mm (right), and 11,8±2,6 mm (left) in females and males, consequently. The lateral distance of the point where the nerve pierced the trapezius, was 28,8±6,9 mm and 34,3±8,5mm (right); 29,7±7,8 mm (left) and 34,6±9,3 mm (left) in females and males, consequently. The vertical location inferior to EOP was 12,9±7,3 mm and 14,7±9,5 mm (right), and 13,1±5,6mm (left) and 14,3±11,3 mm in females in females and males, consequently. The section area of GON was 2,59±1,82mm2; fascicle number 5,57±3,15, fascicle surface area 0,735±0,309mm2, axonal density 3.157,913±1.170,743/mm2, axon number 2452±1658, axon diameter 2,898±0,63µm, myelinated axon number 3.432,995±1.481,404; myelin thickness 1,916±0,471µm, and g ratio 0,436±0,06. Conclusion: With this study, new data on the topographic anatomy and morphometry of GON was obtained and detailed information on its histology was obtained for the first time.
