Synthesis of Sugar-Based Coumarin Derivatives and Determination of Their Biological Activities
Project no. 23879 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2022
Summary

Chiral compounds are of great importance especially in the pharmaceutical sector and in this context, asymmetric synthesis is one of the most important research areas in organic chemistry and pharmacology. The importance of chiral compounds is increasing day by day, therefore, studies on the synthesis of these compounds are accelerating. In addition, copper complexes of chiral Schiff-base ligands have been used as active catalysts in many reactions and are compounds of serious importance in biological applications, especially antimicrobial and anticancer. Their low toxicity, easy synthesis and economic cost are shown among the reasons for the interest in Schiff bases. For this purpose, sugar-based coumarin structures that are not included in the literature will be added to the literature in this project. In addition, it is expected that the sugar groups provide solubility in water and that these new coumarin derivatives will exhibit more effective anticancer activity due to the imine bond with the Schiff bases synthesis. Accordingly, it is aimed to carry out syntheses with a planned activity orientation within the scope of the project.

The combination of chiral coumarin derivatives, whose activities are known in biological applications, especially in anticancer activity studies, with sugars that are widely used for biomedical purposes, especially as theranostic agents, and therefore the acquisition of new multifunctional structures and in vitro cell culture activity tests constitute the main objective of this project. In this context, the syntheses, characterizations and biological applications of chiral sugar-based coumarin and copper complexes based on per acetyl sugars were carried out within the scope of the project.

The structure and purity of the sugar-based chiral coumarin derivatives synthesized in the project will be verified by 1H and 13C NMR, IR, UV, elemental analysis, melting point and optical rotation angle analysis methods. Additionally, the anticancer activities of the synthesized sugar-based chiral coumarin derivatives and copper complex were investigated using the MCF-7 cell proliferation method, which is a widely used breast cancer cell line.
