Project no. 21218 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019
Summary
The entrepreneur which is one of the important concepts of today's business world is defined as a person trying to innovate by taking the necessary risks. Women who start their own business are referred to as female entrepreneurs. When we look at the developed countries around the world, it can be seen that women take part in the business world in an active, independent, participatory, self-confident and creative manner. It can be observed that the role of women in the country's economy is quite important in these countries. It seems that female entrepreneurship which is an important factor in the development of our country is not at a desired level in Turkey. This situation creates a serious obstacle for the development of our country and requires women to be more active in economic life. The most significant steps to meet this need are to highlight female entrepreneurship, to guide and support female entrepreneurs. Within this context, this project aims to open a discussion about what needs to be done in Turkey for boosting female entrepreneurship and to question the importance and the function of the digital newspapers in this process. The main purpose of the study is to reveal the factors that will increase female entrepreneurship. The research seeks an answer to the question of how to increase female entrepreneurship and takes the digital newspapers as its focus for the evaluation of how to encourage and increase female entrepreneurship via digital newspapers. In this project, 8 most clicked digital newspapers of Turkey (Hürriyet, Milliyet, Sabah, Yeni Şafak, Yeni Akit, Sözcü, Akşam, Habertürk) are detected with Alexa.com. Additionally, online news on female entrepreneurship that is found with the Google Alerts and a total of 444 news are analyzed with content analysis method. According to the project results; news on female entrepreneurship are featured in digital newspapers, but they cannot ensure the female entrepreneurship to reach at a desired level. Due to this fact, digital newspapers should follow a different roadmap in order to increase female entrepreneurship. When the distribution of news on female entrepreneurship in digital newspapers is examined, it is seen that the most news about female entrepreneurship is under the category of News Supporting and Encouraging Female Entrepreneurship. In this category, it is observed that the emphasis is on Success Stories, which is a sub-category of News Supporting and Encouraging Female Entrepreneurship. News about the Factors Affecting Female Entrepreneurship ranks second in the news about female entrepreneurship. Under the category of Factors Affecting Female Entrepreneurship, the most of the news is under the sub- 9 category of Education. It is seen that the news about the Differences between Countries in Female Entrepreneurship is on the third place. When this news is analyzed, it is observed that the most news is published under the sub-category about Female Entrepreneurship in Developing Countries. In the fourth place, there are news under the category of Informative and Awareness-Raising News on Female Entrepreneurship. Most of the news under this category is in the sub-category of Project Announcements. Lastly, there is News on Reasons Prompting Women to Entrepreneurship. In this category, news under the subcategory of Unemployment stands out. This placement in digital newspapers cannot be effective in increasing female entrepreneurship. A new roadmap should be drawn to increase female entrepreneurship. This kind of representation on female entrepreneurship in digital newspapers has not contributed to increase female entrepreneurship. To that end, different aspects of female entrepreneurship should be put forward. The subjects such as the project announcements of non-governmental organizations and public institutions and supports from banks that can solve financial problems should be given more space in the news about Supporting and Encouraging Female Entrepreneurship. Regarding the news about the Factors Affecting Female Entrepreneurship, it is necessary to include more news about the sub-categories such as Family, Social Environment and Culture. Under the category of the News on the Differences between Countries in Women Entrepreneurship, it is important to cover examples of successful female entrepreneurship, particularly in developed countries, for the purpose of setting an example for female entrepreneurs in our country. Under the category of Informative and Awareness-Raising News on Female Entrepreneurship, the sub-categories such as Credit Institutions and Where to Apply should be brought to the fore. Under the category of News on Reasons Prompting Women to Entrepreneurship, the news about the subjects such as Earning Income, Serving and Increasing Life Satisfaction and Managing Family Livelihood should be included in digital newspapers. More news on these categories, which are not extensively featured in digital newspapers, will also play an effective role in the increase of female entrepreneurship.
