The Isolation, Purification and Structural Determination of Biologically Active Natural Compounds from Endemic Cephalaria sumbuliana
Project no. 20471 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019
Summary
In our thesis; study aiming to investigate the phytochemical content and biological activity potential of the endemic Cephalaria sumbuliana plant, detailed chromatographic, chemical and biological studies were carried out by us for the first time on n-butanol extract, which was found to be rich in triterpene glycosides. As a result of various isolation and prufication studies, in which a total of thirteen natural compounds, 1 of which was new, were obtained. 1 and 2 dimensional NMR analyzes, HR-MS, IR and GC-MS methods were used for structural determination. The structure of the new compound was determined as a monodesmocidic, oleanan-type triterpene saponin, namely sumbulianoside A (1). The structures of 12 compounds was determined as triterpene saponin. Dipsacus saponin A (2) was isolated from Cephalaria species, for the first time. The names of other known compounds are as follows; elmalienosides A-C (3-5), 3-O-?-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1?2)-?-L-arabinopyranosyl hederagenin 28-O-ß-D-glycopyranosyl ester (6), tchihatchewoside A (7), akebia saponin D (8), scoposide A (9), dipsacoside B (10), balansoide D (11), davisianoside A (12), cilicicoside I (13). The cytotoxic and immunomodulatory activities of the new compound 1 and compound 2 were tested. While no significant cytotoxicity was found in both of the compounds, it was found that compound 1 had an inhibitory effect on the IL-1ß cytokine.
