Summary

Organic farming is a farming method that preserves the natural balance, but the crop yield obtained from this farming method is not sufficient. One of the methods used to overcome the lack of yield is fungi that enter into a mutualistic relationship with plant roots. Many studies have been carried out on the effects of Piriformospora indica, a plant growth-promoting fungus, in conventional agriculture because it has effective root colonization and increases plant growth even under adverse conditions. Seed vigor is the determinant of a normal plant growth capacity of the seed population under optimal or suboptimal conditions. Seed vigor is important for organic seedlings to survive and thus for yield. In this project, the increase of seed vigor by bio-priming of P. indica spores to organic tomato and pepper seeds was investigated. After the application of P. indica spores to the seeds, germination, seed vigor and accelerated aging tests were performed according to ISTA rules. In addition to these experiments, the physiological conditions of the obtained inoculated seedlings were evaluated with the pot experiments. According to the results of the experiments, bio-priming of tomato seeds with low concentrations of spore suspension increased the germination percentage and seed vigor. Such a situation was not observed in pepper seeds. Additionally, no significant changes were observed in the physiological sequence parameters of the seedlings obtained after priming. As a result of this study, it was observed that P. indica spores contributed positively to the germination of seeds by bio-priming of the seeds. In addition, it was determined that inoculated seedlings could be obtained after bio-priming application. In future organic farming practices, inoculation with P. indica at the seed level could be used to enhance seed vigor.
