DETERMINATION OF PROTEIN DEGRADABILITY CHARACTERISTICS OF SOME ALTERNATIVE PROTEIN SOURCE FEEDS IN THE RUMEN
Project no. 22307 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2020
Summary

The aim of the study was to determine the dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) degradability characteristics of some innovative microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris, Spirulina platensis and Schizochytrium ssp.) and dried insect larvae (black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens), unfatted black soldier fly and mealworm (Tenebrio molitor), some other protein sources (camelina meal, whole cotton seed and graspea) and some pomaces (dried brewers grain, grape pomace, fig pomace, tomato pomace and tahini pomace) that can be used as an alternative in the rations of ruminants in the rumen with the in situ Nylon Bag Technique (NBT). For this purpose, the rumen effectively degraded protein (ERDP) and rumen undegraded protein (UDP) contents according to the rumen outflow rates were determined. For the application of NBT, 3 adult rumen cannulated rams were used. The DM and CP degradability of the feeds in the rumen during the 0-72 hours’ incubation period and their degradability characteristics (the a, b and c parameters, effective degradability according to the rumen outflow rate) were determined using the Neway package program. As a result, the feeds were sorted according to their degradability in the rumen, microalgaes and unfatted balck soldier fly at fast in the innovative feeds, grasspea and whole cottonseed at fast, camelina medium speed in other protein sources and from the biggest to smallest, respectively fig pomace, tomate pomace, grape pomace and tahini pomace at medium speed in the pomaces. The rumen undegradable protein content (UDP) of feeds were sorted as the higest at the mealworm and black soldier fly in innovative feeds, camelina pulp in other protein sources and dried brewers grain in the pomaces. Today, for sustainable livestock, animal nutritions, producers and ration experts should turn to alternative feeds in the selection of protein sources and should balance the fast degradable feeds with low degradable feeds to improve the N utilization in the rumen.

Key words: in situ, rumen, protein, sustainability, mikroalgea, insect meal
