Summary

This research aims to examine teachers' views on the role of music in the development of basic language skills of preschool children, using a qualitative study design. The model of the research is a basic qualitative descriptive design. The purpose of this design is to provide a direct and simple description of a phenomenon (Lambert & Lambert, 2012; Sandelowski, 2010; cited in Mutlu, 2020). In other words, the aim of this design is to describe individuals' thoughts about an event or phenomenon (Willis, Sullivan-Bolyai, Knafl, & Cohen, 2016). The study utilizes rhymes, rhythmic-rhymed words, and educational school songs suitable for the level of preschool students, chosen from the relevant literature by field experts, based on the goals and achievements related to the language domain in the Ministry of National Education’s (MoNE) preschool curriculum for children aged 36-72 months. The purpose of the study is to examine teachers' views on the role of music and rhythmic linguistic stimuli in the development of basic language skills in approximately 92 preschool children aged 5-6. Efforts have been made to create rhymes and songs that are suitable for children's vocal ranges, understandable in terms of language, and harmonious with music. Principles focused on developing basic language skills, facilitating easy comprehension of the rhymes and songs to be learned, and ensuring they are entertaining have been the foundation. Teachers' opinions were sought on the extent of the effectiveness of the selected rhymes and songs and whether they developed the mentioned skills. Based on the responses from teachers, a conclusion was reached regarding the effectiveness of these stimuli in achieving the achievements presented in the MoNE’s preschool curriculum for children aged 36-72 months.

Keywords: Preschool, language skills, music.
