Summary

Apitherapy is mainly the treatment with bees or their products as therapeutic agents to prevent diseases or control their progression. Today, apitherapy is part of complementary and integrative medicine in many countries. Honey, pollen, propolis, bee venom, royal jelly, royal jelly, bee bread, apilarnil, bee air, and bee sound are used in apitherapy studies. In addition, even though podmore extract is traditionally used in apitherapy for wound treatment, there are no scientific studies on the effects of podmore. The podmore extract is produced by cleaning, drying and powdering the naturally dead honeybees in bee colonies in the fall period, or by filtering the solution formed by soaking the whole bees in ethyl alcohol, water, olive oil or eucalyptus oil for about 3 weeks. Podmore is a mixture of all the products found in the bee body: bee venom, honey, royal jelly, propolis, beeswax, chitosan and possibly enriched with other elements and bee enzymes. It contains a large amount of lysozyme enzyme, which has strong antibacterial effects due to its ability to disintegrate/dissolve the bacterial wall; skin rejuvenation, hair growth, as well as weight loss and antibacterial effects in cosmetics. In our study, podmore extract, propolis extract and silver sulfadiazine were applied to the wounds created in rats. At the end of the experiment, all rats were euthanized by cervical dislocation under anesthesia and histological evaluation of all wound samples was performed. As a result of the study, podmore extract showed a similar improvement with propolis extract in terms of wound healing. Our study is the first study to determine the difference in the efficacy of podmore and propolis extracts and sulfadiazine on wound tissue in experimental animals.
