The effects of day-night difference and depth in Aegean Sea trawl fishery
Project no. 1136 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015
Summary
The operation time and the depth could create important effects in trawl fishery. In this study, the differences of catch compositions between day-night trawl operations were investigated where realized in the Aegean Sea. Totally 288 hauls were conducted with 72 trawl operations (40 day, 32 night). It was seen that trawl fishermen prefer the night operations to day ones especially in winter months. The most important reason of this choice is the higher productivity of night fishery products to day ones in the same period. In these time period higher economical incomed products such as, caramote shrimp (Melicertus kerathurus) and common squid (Loligo vulgaris) are caught much more in night. It has been determined that lower economical income of red mullet (Mullus barbatus) both in quantity and price, is the target species of day operations are preferred over to night products.
