INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF GENOTYPIC PROPERTIES OF BACTERIA ON THE CLINICAL COURSE OF ACTIVE TUBERCULOSIS

Project no. 165 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Studies have suggested that the interaction between host and bacterial genotype may affect the progression of active disease and perhaps the clinical form of the disease, and for this purpose the strains have been studied such as LAM, Haarlem, X and W/Beijing etc. However, a study has been published on the effects of LAM7-TUR strains specific to our country on the clinical form and course of active disease. The aim of this project is to investigate the genetic characteristics of bacteria that affect the clinical forms of active tuberculosis and the response to treatment. M.tuberculosis complex strains isolated from a total of 100 TB cases, 84 of which were pulmonary and 16 of them were extra-pulmonary TB were included in the study. The presence of at least one of fever, weight loss and hemoptysis in 84 pulmonary TB patients examined in the study, the presence of at least one of fever and weight loss in 16 extrapulmonary TB cases, were accepted as constitutional symptom. Spoligotyping and MIRU-VNTR method with 15 loci were used for genotyping of M.tuberculosis strains. In the present study, it was determined that the most dominant M.tuberculosis spoligotypes were ST53 and ST41 (LAM7TUR), and genotype of the most dominant zoonotic TB agent was ST 685. Also, it was seen that the clinical course of TB disease caused by LAM7-TUR strains specific to our country is not different from TB cases caused by other strains. In addition, no significant relationship was found between the clinical course of the disease and the genotype of the bacteria.
