Summary

Studies on Improving Germination Performance of Seeds of Some Lamiaceae Family Species

In the study, the seeds of Izmir thyme (Origanum onites L.), black basil (Lavandula stoechas L.) and basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) of 3 species from the Lamiaceae family were used as a research material. The aim of the research to reach the best germination percentage and average germination time together with the elimination of the heterogeneous and low rate germination problems seen in the seeds determined by preliminary studies and determined to be seed origin. In order to improve the germination performance and quality of Izmir thyme, black herb and basil seeds, some applications were made before planting. For this purpose, the effects of control, KNO3, GA3, polymer coating, priming, priming+polymer coating, priming+polymer coating+KNO3, priming+polymer coating+GA3 applications to all seeds on seed germination rate and average germination days compared to control were investigated.

As a result of the results obtained from the research; the highest germination percentage of 94% in Izmir thyme was found in priming+polymer coating+KNO3 application. On the other hand, it was obtained from priming+polymer coating+GA3 application with 92% and 94% germination power performance in black herb and basil seeds.

Key words: Lamiaceae, priming, seed treatments, germination
