REMOVAL OF COBALT AND NICKEL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION USING CYANEX 272 IMPREGNATED RESINS
Project no. 227 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
In the present study, in order to remove radioactive cobalt and nickel from reactor decontamination solutions regarded as active corrosion products of nuclear reactors, preparation, characterization of solvent impreganted resins (SIRs) and the investigation of their adsorption behaviours towards cobalt and nickel ions were aimed. In the experiments, radioactive cobalt and nickel were simulated with their inactive isotopes. In the preparation of SIRs, Cyanex 272, kerosene, Amberlite XAD 7 and XAD 16 resins were used as organic solvent, diluent and support materials, respectively. The characterization of SIRs were carried out by FTIR, SEM, TGA-DSC and surface analyses. Adsorption behaviours of SIRs towards cobalt and nickel were investigated by batch technique depending parameters such as pH, contact time, initial metal concentration, temperature and adsorbent dosage. The adsorption behaviours of SIRs in dynamic conditions towards cobalt and nickel ions were investigated using column method. The effect of flow rate and bed height parameters on metal uptake were determined.
