Preoperative Modeling and Simulation with Three Dimensional Printing in Aneurysm Surgery

Project no. 20642 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2019

Summary

Along with the technological developments, there are developments not only in surgical methods and instruments, but also in diagnosis and treatment methods. 3D printers, one of the popular innovations of today, are being used more and more in the field of medicine as in every field of life. In this project, it is aimed to determine the effectiveness of the use of 3D modeling with a new method in aneurysm surgery. With the results of the project, it will be possible to make modifications suitable for the process by adapting the 3D Printer device, which has recently been used in the health sector, to neurosurgical practices. In our study, computer-aided modeling with 3D computed tomography or magnetic resonance angio (MRA) was created in patients who applied to our university hospital with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and aneurysms were detected on their triggers. Then, models for aneurysm cases were produced by producing in 3D printers and simulation was performed. In this prospective study, it is aimed to compare the preoperative planning performed with the help of 3D modeling and 3D printer as a new and developing technique, in terms of surgical time and outcome according to the patients who did not. As a result of the surgical plans, the surgical requirements of the patients who underwent aneurysm surgery were identified, and the similar operations performed on the patient database were examined by examining the time and methods of the surgeons' decision-making. In our study, one-to-one intracranial vessel models were produced with the help of a 3D printer, and a preoperative preparation was made and a prospective comparison was made for the first time in the literature. With our study, the adaptation of the 3D printer device, which has recently been used in the healthcare sector, to neurosurgical practices, to make modifications suitable for the procedure, the future vascularization of the tumor, and personal guides in spinal surgery can be produced to improve the surgical time and results. This project was supported by Ege University Scientific Research Projects Coordination with the project number TGA-2019-20642. Keywords: 3D aneurysm model, aneurysm, virtual surgical planning
