Improving the Safety Awareness of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Pilots by Mobile Application

Project no. 28453 · Status: Kapanmış · 2023

Summary

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are one of the most popular inventions of the 21st century. Unmanned aerial vehicles have adapted to daily life over time and started to be used in many different sectors, and many jobs have become possible with these tools. Unmanned aerial vehicles, which are called the technology of the future, have created their own sectors and economies in a short time with the employment they create, their contribution to the country's economy and the opportunities they provide. However, this sector, which is still in its development phase, cannot be used with a regular operational planning due to both the lack of legislation and the uncertainties in the air traffic system. The unmanned aerial vehicles used pose a safety risk due to reasons such as not being controlled from a specific base or center like other aircraft and not having a slot tracking system. Additionally, you can become an unmanned aerial vehicle pilot with short-term training and anyone can purchase and use unmanned aerial vehicles or drones. This situation causes situations such as aircraft pilots who do not have safety awareness to make flights that may pose a safety risk. Aiming to take a positive step towards this problem, the project aims to increase the safety awareness of unmanned aerial vehicle pilots with an easily accessible and usable mobile application suitable for today's modern technology, and provide information such as meteorological information, aviation maps, flight-related reminders and safety procedures that they will use as reference during flights. The aim is to provide access to information. In addition, safety checklists (check-lists) to be used before, during and after the flight were created with the information obtained from flight trials with unmanned aerial vehicles in order to be incorporated into the application. The created mobile application was used by the unmanned aerial vehicle pilots of Mana Aviation, and then the survey application was applied to all pilots to reveal how much it contributed to safety awareness. In addition, the mobile application has been shared not only with unmanned aerial vehicle pilots, but also in general and as a free download, so that everyone who is interested can benefit from it. In this context, it is aimed to create a broad safety awareness.
