INVESTIGATION OF THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF DIFFERENT ACCESSORIES USED IN APPAREL PRODUCTS
Project no. 1106 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
The auxiliary materials are as important as the fabric, which is the main material in an apparel. One of the most important auxiliary materials is button. Buttons have a very common usage area in the ready-to-wear industry where closure is required, but they also act as an important accessory in terms of the aesthetic value they add to the items they are used. The performance of buttons can be determined by strength, color fastness, washing and dry cleaning resistance tests. There are various strength tests to determine the performance of buttons during use. The strength of the button sewing is measured by the button strength test. There are strength devices used for this purpose. In addition to this test that shows how firmly the button is attached to the fabric, the "fatigue test", which is the performance characteristic of the button after being held under a certain load, and the "button leg separation strength" test, which shows the structural deformation of the button, are other important mechanical strength tests applied to the buttons. In this study, detailed information is given about the historical development of buttons, their types, expected performance characteristics and applied quality control tests. Button types frequently used in the apparel industry were examined and it was aimed to measure the breaking strength of different buttons. It was determined that the change of button diameter in different types of buttons differs in the button strength results. Button breaking force values of 4-hole buttons of the same diameter were found higher than 2-hole buttons. In addition, it was determined that sewing threads and fabrics used in button sewing have a significant effect on button breaking strength values.
