Storage of blood, tissue and stool samples of patients followed up with the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Project no. 111 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

ABSTRACT Purpose; Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease, and its prevalence is increasing all over the world. Immune dysregulation, genetic and environmental factors are thought to play a role in the etiology of these diseases. However, the etiopathogenesis of the disease remains unclear. A curative treatment is not yet available. Corticosteroids, immunosuppressive and biological agents are used to remedy the disease. A wide variety of pathways leading to disease have been identified in IBD. Therapies lead to changes in cytokine pathways. Intensive research on IBD, which has a high treatment cost, is continuing all over the world. In this substructure study, our aim is to store blood, tissue and stool samples of patients diagnosed with IBD (without any treatment if possible), to establish a pool of disease for future research and to prepare the ground for effective scientific research. Material Method: Informed consent forms are obtained from patients who are followed-up with the diagnosis of IBD in Ege University School of Medicine, Department of Gastroenterology since 2017 and tissue, blood and fecal samples are stored for further investigation. The samples were enumerated in suitable materials and enumerated in a -80 C freezer and stored for long periods without patient information. Results: Since 2017, blood, stool and / or tissue samples of approximately 300 IBD patients are stored in suitable conditions - 80 ° C freezer. Discussion and conclusion: In scientific research, the power of the research is directly related to the number of patients, the method and the importance of the research subject. IBD is a disease group which has been increasing in recent years, causing morbidity and mortality as well as serious health expenditures. Etiopathogenesis and therefore, there are many issues open to research in the treatment. Therefore, scientific studies on the etiopathogenesis and curative treatment of IBD will be valuable and horizon. Keywords: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), blood, stool, tissue, bank
