A STUDY ABOUT THE USAGE POSSIBILITIES OF ULTRASOUND IN CARPET CLEANING

Summary
In this study, the amount of cleaning effects of ultrasonic washing over the carpets stained with various stains were searched. The study was comprised of three main experimental parts. In the first part, 3 different types of carpets were stained by enzymatic, oily and bleachable stains such as yoghurt with strawberry, olive oil and pomegranate juice respectively. Ultrasonic washings were made in different temperatures and durations. In the second and third parts carpets were stained by ketchup, an enzymatic stain and mud, a particulate stain and then they ultrasonic washings and non-ultrasonic washings were performed at room temperature by different durations. As the result of the experiments, it was concluded that ultrasonic washing colud be an alternative in carpet washing if the washing conditions were arranged reasonablely. The advantage of this process can be determined as the decreasing of time and a mild washing capability of sensitive carpets.
