DEVELOPMENT OF LAB-MADE NEEDLE TRAP SENSORS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS IN BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES

Project no. 21635 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020

Summary

Analysis of volatile organic compounds in biological samples is frequently preferred because it can be carried out easily in various biological matrices in recent years. When the levels of these compounds in biological samples are correlated with the disease pathways, they can be used for the diagnosis of related diseases at the early stages. Because of their potential, the diagnosis of diseases by VOC analysis is very popular in recent years. Among these compounds, aldehydes are frequently analyzed in biological samples for the diagnosis of diseases. The analysis of aldehydes can be carried out by chromatographic techniques. However, they have some disadvantages such as needing an expert person and also the consumption of hazardous organic solvents. Therefore, there needs a requirement for the development of more simple and environmentally friendly techniques. In this context, microextraction techniques can be used for the analysis of the targeted analytes after the adsorption of a miniaturized adsorbent surface. These techniques are frequently preferred for the analysis of VOCs in biological matrices.

In this project, a needle trap microextraction-based method has been developed for the analysis of some aldehydes in biological matrices. In this method, hexanal, heptanal, benzaldehyde, octanal and decanal were successfully determined in synthetic urine samples with 0.06-0.61 ppm LOD values.
