INVESTIGATION OF THE SEWING NEEDLE PARAMETERS THAT CREATE FABRIC DAMAGE
Project no. 778 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this study, it was aimed to determine the factors that affects the needle damage which occurs during sewing process. In this context, first of all the factors that may affect the needle damage were determine and an experimental plan was designed. In the project study, fabric knitting structure, sewing direction, needle tip form, needle number and machine speed parameters were determined as variable and the effect of the sewing thread was excluded. Three different fabrics were used in the construction of single jersey, ribana and pique knitting. Visual evaluation samples were prepared in a double press sewing machine. In sewing applications, 4 different needles were used in 2 different needle forms, SUK (medium ball) and SES (light ball), and 2 different needle numbers, 80 Nm and 110 Nm, in total. The sewability and needle penetration force values of the fabrics were determined using the L&M Sewability tester. The evaluation of the needle damage on the fabrics was carried out in a visual-subjective manner, and the data obtained were comprehensively evaluated. When the results are examined, it is seen that the most important factor causing needle damage during sewing is the needle number. Accurate determination of the needle number and needle tip form to be used in sewing a product is very important in obtaining a quality stitch and minimizing the formation of needle damage investigated in the study. During the needle selection stage, the thickness, stiffness and number of fabric layers at the operation point should be taken into consideration.
