The Selective Hydroxyl Protecting Group Strategies and Their Applications In The Carbohydrate Chemistry
Project no. 21486 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019
Summary
The protective groups are the one of the most active reasearch areas of the carbohydrate chemistry. They are formed by temporary and selective protection of the hydroxyl groups on the carbohydrate molecule. In this way, the desired modifications are acquired on the skeletal structure of the sugar molecule obtaining suitable derivatives for the use of different the areas. These molecules can be used as in the formation of the monomer for polymer synthesis and as reagents such as aldehydes, amines, schiff bases, azides, glycosides, glycoconjugates for the synthesis reactions of biologically active molecules or biomaterials. Therefore, they have the area of interest. In the proposed study, the reactions with the most appropriate methods were carried out to obtain the different protective groups such as chloralose, isopropylidene, methyl ether, sulfonate ester using the main monosaccharide D-galactose as starting material by the considering time and budget limits. This Project also included the the characterizations of the synthesized compounds as a result of reactions by various methods (FT-IR, melting point determination, the optical rotation , 1H-NMR). As a result, it is thought that precursor galactose-derived sugars products which are stable and have the potential to be converted into many new unique sugar molecules successfully obtained from different steps.
